Do you remember the time you just had to have something? You wanted it so bad you could almost taste it.
But then you didnβt get itβ¦
The thing you wanted so desperately either fell out of your reach, or was ripped away by some unseen force.
Remember the disappointment, the let down, the despair?Β
I remember when we were ready to buy our first home.
I was 25 and just had my first baby. I so badly wanted a little house to nest in with a yard and some grass for my kids to play.
We lived in Seattle at the time and it was a sellerβs market. People were getting thousands over asking price with cash offers.
We would see houses that we loved, only to find they had several offers already.
I remember praying and pleading that this next one would be ours.
Finally we found that not so perfect house. It was old and musty with outdated everything but I had to have it and we were first in line. We just knew this would be the one.
The news came the next day and we were crushed. Someone had offered over $3000 more than us. I cried and cried and felt like weβd never ever be able to buy a house.
I lost all hopeβ¦
and went into a bit of a depression and felt myself give up for several weeks. Even my optimistic husband, couldnβt get me to perk up and look at other places. I didnβt want to get my hopes up any more.
I was done.
3 weeks later my husband came home with some amazing news.
He was offered a transfer back to our home town. That had been our goal all along but we knew he had to put in the time, to gain the seniority needed, to get one of those positions. That was expected to take at least 3-4 years.
I remember him saying to me, βMelissa, do you see that this turned out exactly the BEST way possible for us? If we had bought that house, we might not have been able to take this offer.β
Not to mention the stress and loss of money due to closing costs etc.
Trust that everything happens for your highest and greatest good.
That was probably the first time I realized I needed to trust moreβ¦ that if I let go, things worked out better than if I tried to follow my own plan. Godβs plan is always so much more amazing than mine anyway.
But even today, after seeing countless proof of this in my life, it still can be hard to trust. Yes, Iβm way better than I used to be but that old human programing still tries to grab the wheel and take over at times.
So hereβs what I do to put myself at ease and release control, knowing that all will end in my highest and greatest good.
5 Steps To Building Trust
#1 Look at your History
By looking back you can usually see that things ended up ok and most likely youβre grateful for the way things happened.
If they didnβt, look for some valuable lessons that prevented you from making some HUGE mistakes later on.
#2 Let go so you can thrive.Β
Realize that pushing too hard can create a lot of stress. Stress has so many negative end results, which I talk about in this blog post. It saps your health, destroys relationships and it actually makes you the opposite of a money magnet. It makes you repel the good things you want.
Itβs really ok to not be in control all the time. Just try it.
#3 Meditate
Meditation has great power to help you get to a state of release and allowing. I use a form of it every day and itβs made a huge difference in my life. Iβll share at the end of this post a great tool thatβs easy, quick and powerful.
#4 Prayer
Prayer or connecting to God-Source-Universe-higher power, is a beautiful way to allow trust to grow. Knowing your back is covered and youβre supported by something so much bigger than yourself is undeniably powerful. This is something I could never give up time for. It allows me to connect and align myself to create the best life I could hope for.
#5 Intention
Put your intention on what you want, not what you donβt want. I like to add my intention to my prayer requests as it ties everything together in a beautiful package. I ask for what I want to heal or clear, then I focus my intention on the desired end result. That end focus is where the magic happens. If you can actually allow yourself to feel what it would be like if your dream or goal was happening right now, you can create miracles.
What would it feel like to be healthy? Can you see yourself jogging, feel your heart beating strong as cool air rushes into your lungs. Close your eyes and visualize that for a minute. Doesnβt it feel amazing?
Maybe you want your business to be successful. Can you see yourself secure with the freedom to travel anywhere in the world? Or you can finally buy that home youβve wanted for so long. Visualize yourself sitting in front of the fireplace, laughing with your family, feeling that love and security.
All of these steps help create the trust you need to create the love , security and freedom you want.
